Article One
Several Iowa sheriffs are expressing their anger towards legislation passed this past week that strips their discretion to issue permits to carry weapons. The legislation was passed on Monday. It requires sheriffs to give a reason if they deny a permit, and make these decisions based on the state guidelines. Sheriff Warren Wethington is a supporter of the bill. He says "it makes the law uniform across the state and puts Iowa on the same plane as three dozen other states."
Article Two
Gov. Chet Culver was delighted in the Democratically controlled Legislature for not starting the process to amend the state constitution. The ammendment were to declare that civil marriage can only legally enjoin one man and one woman in the state of Iowa. Culver personally believes that marriage should be between a man and a woman. Culver does not want to see such an ammendment be added to the state constitution.
Article Three
The Iowa House adjourned at 12:21 p.m. on the 79th day. It was planned to be an 80-day session. The Senate is expected to follow shortly. The House had made some key accomplishments.
