Article One
On Thursday legislators compromised the new texting and driving bill. Iowa drivers will be prohibited from writing, sending or reading text messages, but it can not be the primary reason for law officers to make a traffic stop. In the compromise there are texting exemptions for drivers engaged in public safety duties, a health care professional in the course of an emergency situation and a driver receiving safety-related information such as emergency, traffic or weather alerts. The texting ban does not apply to GPSs.
Article Two
Former Iowa Governor will make it official on Monday afternoon about his run for re-election. For two months Branstad has been traveling around the state on his "Iowa comeback tour". He will be facing Bob Vander Plaats and State Representative Rod Roberts in a June 8th Republican primary.
Article Three
Former Gov. Terry Branstad says he will be joining in three campaign debates with his two Republican rivals. These will occur before the June 8th primary. The two debates that are finalized will be April 7 in Sioux City and on May 1 debate in Cedar Rapids.
